Just a little funny feeature, that can be used to get a general idea of the qualiy of a certain members posts.. If the member makes a good post, yiu can click the "Applaud" link, if they make a bad post, you can use the "Smite" link.

In the end, all the karma points are added together, and a final carma is calculated.

I don't think that members will use it in a fair way, so it's mostly a "just for fun" feature.

I have been using the Karma for a day or two I also agree with Chano that it most likely will be abused.

Why? It's pure entertainment, for those who find it entertaining, and it doesn't hurt the rest.

But then again, as an admin, you can do what you feel is right, I'm just interested in why you'd like to disable it.

I decided to disable it.  It was pointless and could be used unfairly to hurt others and as a put-down which we don't want to do here.

I personally think it was a bit shit.

BUT, I think it'd be better if the members could actually CHOOSE whether they had Karma or not.

It doesn't worry me, I've got good Karma one day and bad the next anyway! cry cry
It might not be a real good thing though. Leanne's right,I could see people getting hurt if it was used in the wrong way.

That really depends on how serious people are taking it...

True Chano. Some people would just treat it as a laugh but others may not and could get the impression that others don't like them or are having a go at them.
If I think back to a few off my posts at various times I probably would have a Karma over -100 after a couple off them! It wouldn't have worried me as I probably would have deserved it anyway but others might not have that attitude. I'm sure we have all regretted clicking on the post button at one time or another. It probably depends on how seriously you take yourself and some people are a lot more serious than others. smiley smiley

Well, in generel most people here, should know, that such a feature is NOT to be taken serious. I mean, there's a lot of kids, or at least people who ACT like kids, from time to time, and they would NEVER use such a feature fairly.. However, I think that in a place like this, the only karma system that would work at least a BIT like it's intended, is one that only allows positive karma to be given.. That way you can not use it against someone, as you can only add to their karma, not subtract from it.

Strikes me that "Karma" is for cowards.

I much prefer the system where if someone writes a great message .... we congratulate them, and when .... hehe I nearly named someone then ! .....  writes a load of crap, we tell them that too !

Karma would just allow sneaky people to give messages the "thumbs down" without them having to admit who they were, or why the thought the message deserved a lousy "score".
